Breast Cancer Facts and Statistics for Louisiana

The Louisiana state average for mortality is 28.9/100,000.  The national average for breast cancer mortality is 24.5/100,000. (Source:  National Cancer Institute 2002-2006 State Cancer Profiles)

The current mortality in the Komen Acadiana service areas is as follows:

• Acadia:  31.5/100,000 
• Iberia:  29.7/100,000
• Lafayette:  32.4/100,000
• St. Martin:  25.4/100,000
• St. Landry:  23.0/100,000
• Vermilion:  30.3/100,000

Out of the six-parish service area, five of the six parishes have numbers higher than the national average for breast cancer mortality and four of the six are higher than the current state average.

The Louisiana state average for breast cancer incidence is 119.6/100,000.  The national average for breast cancer incidence is 121.9/100,000.  (Source:  National Cancer Institute 2002-2006 State Cancer Profiles)

In incidences, the numbers are as follows:

• Acadia:  123.9 cases per 100,000
• Iberia:  137.5 cases per 100,000
• Lafayette:  119 cases per 100,000
• St. Martin:  121.4 cases per 100,000
• St. Landry:  123.3 cases per 100,000
• Vermilion:  114.5 cases per 100,000

In Komen Acadiana's service area, three of the six parishes are above the national average incidences.  Four of the six parishes are above the state average for incidences.
