Year-Round Committees - All of these committees are in need of volunteer assistance. If you are interested in joining one of the committees or want any further details please contact Mollie Matthews at volunteer@komenacadiana.org
- Joining a committee does not constitute completing all responsibilities listed below. Any help that can be provided is greatly appreciated.
Education/Outreach Committee: Purpose: Carries out approved education and outreach plan.Helps fulfill the education mission of Komen through outreach programs designed to increase awareness and knowledge of breast health and organization activities. Reports to: Education& Outreach Chairs Ways to help: - Help to develop a Board-approved plan and budget for breast health outreach based on the community needs.
- Help to provide breast health education to local volunteers and local organizations.
- Help to maintain a current inventory of resources and education materials available through Headquarters.
- Develop and maintain any relationships with various organizations and schools.
- Deliver educational material to organizations, schools, etc
- Staff informational table at health fairs and outreach events.
- Komen Educators (for those interested) - present community programs on breast health and awareness. Many different organizations throughout the year invite representatives from Komen to come speak to them or appear at an event they are hosting. Topics range from personal experiences, general history of Komen, and information on breast cancer. Additional training and education will be provided for those interested in representing Komen.
Events Committee:
Purpose: Develop and implement a comprehensive events program to expand Komen Acadiana's impact in the area and to increase the Affiliate's financial gains for granting purposes. Reports to: Events Coordinator Ways to help: - Helping to manage third-party and special event contacts
- Helping to get formal paperwork signed
- Assist with planning and execution of events such as: Passionately Pink for the Cure, Yoplait Save Lids to Save Lives, Brides for the Cure, Shop for the Cure "on the Boulevard", Rally for the Cure, and Try it on for the Cure at Coldwater Creek
- Talking to the public and representing Komen for the Cure at these events.
Grants Committee: Purpose: To develop and implement a plan to publicize the availability of grant funds, oversee compliance, facilitate the review by the review committee, administer grants approved by the Affiliate Board and provide oversight to ensure the integrity of the grant making process Reports to: Grants Chair Person Ways to help: - Help with administrative processing and support of grant applications and contracts
- Help to develop mailing lists and information distribution systems for grant announcements
- Assist with developing/maintaining a plan to address the priorities identified in the Community Profile (the Affiliate's community needs assessment updated every two years).
- Help to prepare and distribute requests for applications (RFAs)
- Help to recruit, retain, and recognize review panel members
- Be of assistance with notifying grant applicants of the review status
- Help to publicize grants
- Receive progress reports from grantees
- Help evaluate the local grant making process
- Evaluate the progress of grantees according to stated objectives.
Public Relations & Communications Committee: NOTE: Public speaking not a must. Both direct and indirect media relations used. Purpose: Communicates Komen's promise and key messages, and raises awareness of the Komen brand. Provides communications support for Affiliate events, community outreach programs and Affiliate-funded grants. Increases awareness and knowledge of breast health and breast cancer among local media, the general public and other target audiences Reports to: Public Relations Chair Person Ways to help: - Year-round media communications with concentration on Race and Affiliate events
- Develop/maintain a media list for distributing Race/Komen information.
- Develop special interest stories to circulate to the press.
- Write press releases and other media materials for press kits.
- Write and distribute public service announcements (PSA's).
- Arrange for media coverage for the Race/Komen activities through press conferences and interviews.
- Create advertisements for local newspapers and magazines and follow-up with them
- MaintainWebsite, annual Newsletter; manage mailing.
Volunteer Committee: Purpose: The volunteer committee works towards structuring, identifying, cultivating, recognizing, and rewarding the Komen volunteers. Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator Ways to help: - Help with volunteer management
- Help process volunteer requests
- Help to maintain recruitment program
- Help with orientation/ongoing education presentations
- Recruit, place and train volunteers
- Assist with retention of volunteers
- Assist with recognition and appreciation of volunteers
- Work with other Committees to determine volunteer needs
- Send thank you letters and other volunteer correspondence
