Komen Acadiana is thankful for the overwhelming response and submissions to our 2018 Survivor of the Year Contest, conducted by Courtesy Automotive Group. The committee reviewed the nominations for 47 ladies, and selected two finalists to be Co-Survivors of the Year for 2018, Sharon Washington and Aimee Williford!

We are honored to support and celebrate the life of all survivors and are grateful that these two ladies have agreed to be ambassadors during our celebration of life, the 2018 Acadiana Race for the Cure!

Sharon Washington is a proud mother of 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren, who opens her heart to all people, and works hard to support those around her. Sharon was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, after a routine well visit and follow up mammogram.  Before, during and after her diagnosis, friends and family affirm that Sharon’s strength and love of neighbors above herself shone through, even when enduring chemo, radiation, and surgery. As a survivor, Sharon continues to encourage and support others, uplifting those around her by speaking at support groups, attending breast cancer events, and reaching out to help those who are fighting the battle.

Aimee Williford did not let cancer slow her down, or get in the way of her roles as an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, student (even finishing her masters degree during treatment), and mental health counselor. After diagnosis, and during treatment and surgery, friends and loved ones expressed how Aimee continued to put her patients and others’ concerns above her own, even during her treatment, doing so with grace, unselfish love and humility.  Aimee is a “warrior” who fights every day to inspire others, even while “KO’ing cancer”. It has been stated that “even through her personal suffering, she still poured out her life and heart to others”.

Congratulations again to our 2018 Co-Survivors of the Year, Sharon Washington and Aimee Williford!
